What can you Learn from Hertfordshire’s Employers Best and Worst Interview Experiences?

15th January 2020

We surveyed some of Hertfordshire’s companies recently to find out all about their experiences with interviews. We found some common themes amongst them and have gathered a few examples of their responses.

When describing their best interviews, we found their best experiences were with candidates who had prepared, were enthusiastic and interested in the role.

  1. “A welcoming attitude, motivated, excited, passionate and knowing why they want the job and to be enthusiastic”
  2. “Engaged candidate who has done some research about the company and demonstrates interest and enthusiasm”
  3. “When the person has taken the time to be knowledgeable of your company and come prepared to asked questions”

What does this show us? You attitude means so much more to employers than the things you say. Be prepared, show passion and be enthusiastic about your experiences. At times it can be really difficult to believe in yourself, especially if you haven’t had much success thus far.

When our clients were asked about their worst experiences and it was no surprise that it was the opposite of what they had said previously!

  1. “Negative, not a very good communicator, no passion or enthusiasm”
  2. “Unprepared candidate with no questions”
  3. “Lateness, not interested or animated”

Again, it was all about attitudes to the role! You can really impress an employer by your attitude, it isn’t just about your work experience or how much you know about the role. The best interviews that were explained in our survey highlighted key attitudes, which proves that the employer will always think about your attitude, not exactly what you said.

You can work on all of this before you go to an interview, by preparing you can ensure you are doing the best you can! Take a look at our interview mistakes blog to find out more about what mistakes you may be making which can be worked on and improved along the way.
