The Key to Keeping Your Employees Engaged During Covid-19

22nd May 2020

In our quest to get back to a new normal, keeping your employees engaged is going to play a huge part in this. Employee stresses are at an all time high, Covid-19 has caused economy uncertainty, furlough, concerns over health as well as the looming possibility of job uncertainty and potential recession.  As you can imagine it's important to remember the way your employees may be feeling and it is more important than ever to keep your people engaged. Therefore, working on ensuring you are keeping your employees engaged is something which you should be working on right now. So, how can you ensure your employee engagement does not suffer in the face of Covid-19?

The Key is Communication.

Of course, communication is essential anyway! But, in times of uncertainty, communication becomes so much more important. Especially whilst you focus on supporting your employees. It is essential that they are kept up-to-date and they feel fully informed in this time. Making an extra effort to do so whilst working from home is a must.

Small Talk

Working remotely can make communication a little bit harder. Often, we can cut straight to the point, many of us are guilty of this even in the office! This is why it is essential to make a little extra time to make a bit more small talk. This will help you stay involved and understand what the person in front of you may or may not be dealing with, but also maintain the idea that you are invested in them as a person.

Video Call

Make extra time to video call your employees and colleagues to get a more personal feel, whether this is team meetings or just a weekly catch up. It is easy to pick up the phone but seeing your employees and colleagues face-to-face is much more effective for communication and feels a lot more personal.

Frequency

Take time to have more regular contact and ensure that everyone is in communication with each other. This may mean that you are communicating more than usual. This will help you take steps to prevent people from feeling as if they are isolated. But also, so you can manage expectations and communicate properly in this time.

Have Fun

If you're an extra social team you have probably already created a WhatsApp group. A team group chat can be a great place to have some fun non-work-related chats. Share pictures of your new baking skills, play games and just keep in touch with everyone in your team.

By focusing on something as simple as team communication your employees will feel fully supported and understood, will in turn help your employee engagement!
