Temping could be your path into a permanent role within a company

6th October 2016

There is always the possibility that when a business takes on a new temp that they will become a permanent member of staff. This may well be because the temp has impressed that company so much that they want to keep them and when this happens, not surprisingly, the short-term position becomes a new found career.

What this enables us to do is to look at temping in a different way and if you think about it like that why not consider doing some temping yourself? It’s that old saying about getting your foot in the door and believe it or not many companies are open to this possibility if they get to know you and are impressed.

Temping enables you to try different types of work and see what your specific skill and work preferences are. If you are not employed permanently then working as a temp can really help you define your career goals, whilst earning money and gaining valuable experience to add to your CV.

It will give you valuable experiences working for larger companies and SME businesses, enabling you to decide what particular working environment you prefer and whether you have a particular passion for a specific industry. You may find yourself in a role that was completely unexpected and one that you like and distinguish yourself in. Go into a temping position with this in mind.

Even if a particular temporary assignment does not result in gaining a permanent position you will still pick up valuable skills which you can add to your CV. This will help us find you another slightly more senior temporary role, thus developing your skills even further.  The more you impress the company you are temping at the more likely they are to ask you to return.   In this instance companies may well decide to invest in you, perhaps sending you on training courses and offering you longer term opportunities.
