Applying for a job – click, click, click or register with an agency?

6th October 2016

Job sites are designed to make searching and applying for roles as easy as possible, meaning you can apply for multiple jobs in a matter of seconds. The challenge you face is it is just as easy for other people to apply for jobs as it is for you, meaning employers and agencies alike get a huge volume of applicants CVs emailed to them daily.

Competition is harsh and response time has lengthened, because of this you may not receive any notification of your unsuccessful applications. This makes it hard for you to assess why you haven’t been selected and what you could do in the future to increase your chances of success.  After a while, it can become a bit disheartening and may affect your confidence.

There are definite benefits and it is not something you should ever disregard. It is quick and more companies now just take CVs rather than asking you to fill out lengthy application forms online. It also gives you an idea of the type of work available.  The challenge you face is how much do you really know about the role you are applying for?

There is a range of recruitment agencies out there who you could contact that would be able to offer you great advice.

Once you've spoken to a member of staff, sent along your CV and maybe made some amendments the whole recruitment process is handled for you. They will, once they've met you, line up interviews and position you in a positive manner for new jobs.  After all, they have had the benefit of meeting you and therefore can discuss your skills and abilities as a person rather than just using your CV.

The agency you partner with will be able to wherever possible provide you with updates and are contactable throughout the day. They have a greater understanding of the recruitment market and can offer expert advice, not only on your sector but also the standard of your CV and your expectations. Think about it like this; the agency team members have placed hundreds of people in work, and have relationships with the clients they work with so they can give you meaningful guidance and support.
