Location: Hertford – Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £35,000 per annum + Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and detail-focused Finance Officer to join a friendly and fast-paced head office finance team. This is a key position supporting the financial operations of a busy organisation that delivers essential services across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and London.

About the Role

As Finance Officer, you’ll play an important part in ensuring the smooth and accurate running of daily financial processes. You’ll manage bookkeeping and payroll, process invoices, maintain records, and support with month-end reporting. This varied role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills who enjoys working in a busy environment and takes pride in accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping activities using Xero accounting software
• Process monthly payroll via BrightPay
• Raise and manage invoices, including local authority billing and intercompany transactions
• Reconcile accounts and track incoming and outgoing payments
• Audit and mark off timesheets and process pension contributions (NEST)
• Chase outstanding payments and manage supplier communications
• Ensure accurate record keeping and maintain organised financial documentation
• Support the Finance Manager with weekly and monthly reporting deadlines

Skills & Experience Required

• Experience in a similar finance or accounts role
• Level 1 qualification in accountancy or bookkeeping (AAT or equivalent)
• Knowledge of Xero (essential) and BrightPay (advantageous)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
